2010 Writer Access Project

DRAMA

Carla Robinson
Women Writers

Carla’s first produced work was in college where she wrote experimental plays for an experimental theatre, until the experiment failed and the plays bombed. Surprisingly undeterred, Carla headed for Los Angeles, worked film production as a script supervisor, and in the wee hours of the night, she wrote spec TV scripts. In time, her diligence paid off. Carla was selected for programs at Warner Bros. and AFI, and she sold work to All My Children and CBS’s Family Law.

Carla hit her stride, however, when she joined the writing staff of Battlestar Galactica. There, she won a Peabody Award, was nominated for a Nebula Award, and she was cited in TV Guide for penning the creepiest episode of the season. Carla learned a lot working on staff; she shares with other writers the value of perseverance and how a provocative script can be a calling card.
