The WGAW co-sponsored our annual Los Angeles Film Festival reception with SAGIndie and SAG-AFTRA recently in the courtyard of downtown L.A.’s Rivera Restaurant. More than 150 screenwriters, actors, directors, producers and other industry guests enjoyed the festive networking opportunity, with many conversations focused on what the guilds offer writers and actors. In addition to the WGAW member co-hosts, Vice President Howard A. Rodman and writer/director/actor Todd Berger (It’s A Disaster), actors Phillip Baker Hall (People Like Us) and Kimberly Elise (For Colored Girls) were asked to meet guests and promote our organizations.

Twenty Writers Guild members wrote films that were featured during the ten-day run. At this festival and throughout the year we join Film Independent in spotlighting screenwriters so their contributions to filmmaking are recognized. Another goal of our participation is to reach out to those writers who haven’t yet joined the WGAW through Guild agreements.
