DRAMA/MINORITY

Born in Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, Juan Carlos was raised to be practical. He graduated from the University of Florida and began a very secure career in grocery retail management. Until one day while watching television he realized, “I want to do that.”

He swapped coasts and became the script coordinator for several shows, including Cold Case, The Killing, and Scandal. His first pilot, Mortals—a gritty cop drama set in a superhero world— was a semifinalist in the 2014 Final Draft Big Break Contest. While a script coordinator, he wrote the spinoff web series, Scandal: Gladiator Wanted, shortly followed by a freelance episode. He’s written an additional two episodes as a staff writer on Scandal’s final season, including the midseason premiere “Robin.”

Juan Carlos also runs marathons for charity along with doing “that.”
