The Sopranos tops the WGA's list of 101 best-written shows of all time. But Norman Lear and Carl Reiner singing a duet onstage at the Writers Guild Theater? Now that's the show of shows.

Over the seven decades that television has been around, millions of words have been written for tens of thousands of episodes of thousands of shows. The best written? A daunting question that was answered last Sunday night when the Writers Guild West unveiled its list of the 101 Best Written TV Series of all time, a project seven years in the making that gathered together a group of television luminaries that is not likely to be seen again anytime soon. WGA Screenwriters
In meetings with studio chiefs and executives, the Guild presents data from the 2011 Screenwriter Survey to take aim at prewrites, rewrites, late pay and other flagrant practices.

The WGA's 2011 Screenwriter Survey, based on feedback from almost 800 writers, quantitatively confirmed what screenwriters have been anecdotally reporting for several years: increased pressure on them by Hollywood studios to produce more for less with free rewrites and prewrites, one-step deals, sweepstakes pitching and late pay. Writers Guild Foundation
As new Exective Director Katie Buckland champions emergent writers.

The Writers Guild Foundation has named a new Executive Director. Katie Buckland has taken the reins of leadership at the Foundation following the departure of longtime director Angela Kirgo.

Buckland comes to the job from the California Women's Law Center, where she served as Executive Director for eight years. Read more
