Raised in Minneapolis, Garret is a writer-director-producer of many shorts and the feature, Spark. A graduate of the AFI, his work as a filmmaker has earned multiple awards and screened at festivals around the world including Sundance, SXSW, New Directors/New Films, and Berlin. His shorts have been funded by grants from The National Endowment for the Arts, ITVS, and Showtime Networks, Inc.

Garret participated in the Sundance Screenwriting and Filmmaking Labs with Hyenas and Spark. Also Film Independent’s Writing and Directing Labs with Lost Dog and Mudpuppy. A Sundance Fellow, Film Independent Fellow, Tribeca Institute Fellow, member of the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America West’s Independent Writers Caucus.

Garret has worked in television as a director, shooting eight episodes over two seasons of Unusual Suspects, a dramatic true crime series.

Lost Dog
In 1999, a jaded, white Animal Control Officer and his young black trainee chase respect, and a serial dog killer, on the night shift.
