Denise Harkavy

Denise was born in Tehran to political activist parents, who fled to Germany after the Islamic revolution. Raised by a single mother in a housing project, Denise discovered that writing helped her get through tough times and dedicated herself to the craft.

Wishing to pursue a career in writing, she dropped out of pre-med and moved to LA, where she enrolled in the UCLA Writers' Program. There, she placed first in their annual writing competition and gained representation.

She has since written for the videogame Shadow of Mordor, the TNT television series Franklin & Bash, and is currently staffed on Ava DuVernay's Queen Sugar.

Her journey inspired her to gravitate toward stories about outsiders who take on the system and, subsequently, find their true purpose in life.

She is fluent in German, Farsi and English.
