RSVP: Genre. The WGAW's Genre Committee was formed with the purpose of attracting writers interested in a certain genre, to meet, discuss and exchange information in a peer-to-peer setting. Our mission is to push education, diversity and camaraderie amongst all writers no matter their background. The Committee welcomes all writers because writers work in all genres.

Many WGA members have found success in the publishing world either by adapting a script, or script idea, or creating prose work. Ultimately, publishing success can stand alone, augment a screenwriting career, and/or serve the industry's appetite for source material — creating one's own Intellectual Property (IP). This panel will focus on various screenwriters' journeys into successful publishing and how each craft informed the other. Moderator: Lee Goldberg, Panelists: Malaika Adero, Steven Barnes, Ellen Byron, Joel Eisenberg, Peter Gethers, Howard Michael Gould, and Mark Kruger. WGAW members plus one guest.

We also serve as an expert resource for productions on issues related to the vast and diverse Middle Eastern community in the United States and abroad. Conversations in Genre: An Evening with Damon Lindelof and Ronald D. Moore

RSVP: Genre. Presented by the WGAW Genre Committee, this panel brings together two of television's most popular and prolific writers — Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) — to share their experience as genre storytellers with a look back at what went into the making of some of their most memorable works, as well as sharing their respective writing processes. They will also offer their insights on how writers at all levels can effectively navigate the current television landscape. Moderated by Phil Pirrello. This is one event you won't want to miss.

Join Committee Co-chairs, Cameron Fay and Paiman Kalayeh as they discuss the nature of identity and mainstream storytelling of Muslims and Middle Eastern characters in Hollywood with creator, writer, producer, and Golden-Globe winning actor, Ramy Youssef. With a mission to increase visibility about Middle Eastern characters and stories, this panel is both celebratory and informational about how a show such as RAMY can call forth more mainstream characters and storylines about the Middle Eastern experience.
