Lewin wins WGA Evan Somers Award for The Sessions
(November 6, 2012)
The Sessions writer-director Ben Lewin (R) with Allen Rucker, chairman of the WGAW’s Writers With Disabilities Committee.
Writer-director Ben Lewin recently won the WGAW Evan Somers Award for his film The Sessions, presented by the Guild's Writers With Disabilities Committee at this year's Media Access Awards. The inter-Guild event recognizes depictions of disability in film and television that are accurate, inclusive, and multi-faceted. Lewin’s film is based on the real-life story of poet Mark O’Brien, consigned to an iron lung due to polio, and his quest to lose his virginity with the help of a sex surrogate.
