The Ask a Screenwriter platform is a peer-to-peer networking and mentorship program on the WGA Platform created to promote education and career connections within our screenwriter membership. The inquiry system allows screenwriters at every stage in their career to connect to other screenwriters, and is designed to give our busiest and most experienced members an efficient and effective way to pass along their hard-earned wisdom to other writers.

Ask a Screenwriter facilitates short, focused conversations on specific topics. Mentoring conversations are expected to take no more than half an hour, and can take place via the platform by email, Zoom, or phone.

Submit Queries

Any current Guild member can submit up to three mentorship inquiries to available mentors at a time. If a mentor receives an inquiry and can’t address it, they can choose to pass on the inquiry and you can submit to someone else.

Provide Mentoring

Any current member with more than three years of WGAW membership may answer mentoring questions. When you agree to answer questions, the Mentoring Dashboard allows you to have complete control and flexibility over how much time you give to the program. You can have a single mentorship conversation every quarter, 10 conversations a month, or suspend your inquiries entirely if you have a busy schedule. When you’ve hit your allotted number of inquiries within a given time frame, your name is paused on the roster of available mentors.
