Negotiate a WGA Contract
If you are a WGA member, you must make sure the Company employing you is a Guild signatory and that your work is covered under a Guild agreement. If you don’t, you may be in violation of Working Rule 8. Guild staff can work with you to assist a Company through the signatory process or negotiate a deal for coverage on your behalf.
If you are a non-member, our staff can work with you and your fellow writers to secure a WGA contract which provides health and pension benefits, residuals and other Guild protections. We currently seek to expand our jurisdiction in the areas of:
Animation
If you are a writer interested in selling or developing an animated project, you can negotiate WGA coverage, even though not all types of animation are automatically covered by the MBA.
Documentary Film & Nonfiction
The WGAW supports documentary and low-budget writers with contracts, awards, and protections for films under $1.2M, helping them secure Guild coverage and benefits.
Independent Film
The WGAW is committed to increasing independent and low budget screenwriters' status and influence within the film industry.
Podcasts
If you are employed to write a scripted podcast, insist on WGA coverage from the start so you can earn benefits under a Guild agreement.
