Subscribers can now control demographic information, including birthdates.

IMDb recently took one more step toward equitable, inclusive hiring for writers. For years, writers have asked to edit their birth dates and other demographic information on IMDb to ensure they are represented fairly and accurately to decision-makers, peers, and other industry professionals. Through their advocacy, our union siblings at SAG-AFTRA sealed the deal, providing all entertainment talent this new control. These new tools will clear a path for producers, directors, and other hiring staff to discover writers from diverse backgrounds.

As an IMDbPro member, you can now manage whether to self-submit:

  • Your age/birth year
  • Birth name
  • Alternate names
  • Other demographic information

Subscribers can also decide whether the above information is displayed on IMDb and IMDbPro sites and apps.

If you are not yet an IMDbPro subscriber, you can receive a 30% discount by registering here and using promotional code 2023WGAAFF. This benefit can be applied to both annual and monthly subscriptions. By joining, WGA members can unlock access to the following features:

  • Search contact information for over 80,000 people and 30,000 companies in the entertainment industry
  • Create a name page on IMDb, add your resume, and promote yourself
  • Track in-production listings for over 12,000 film and television projects from development to post-production

Though the industry has a long way to go on its journey to inclusivity, this update proves that with advocacy and determination we can move companies to act in the best interest of writers and talent alike.
