Writers’ political donations helped maintain Democratic majority in the Senate.

(12/8/2022)

The Political and Legislative Department is proud to present results for the 2022 Congressional and Los Angeles Mayoral election.

In the Senate, the WGAW PAC endorsed and donated to 12 candidates, including one leadership PAC. Eight candidates won, including Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, who sealed the Senate majority for the Democrats, and Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia, who won in a runoff against Herschel Walker on December 6.

In the House of Representatives, PAC endorsed 23 candidates and contributed to 19 candidates. Twenty candidates won, including PAC-endorsed Southern California candidate Katie Porter. In Los Angeles, the PAC-endorsed candidate for mayor, Karen Bass, won.

While we are disappointed in the House results, we believe there is still potential for some progress this session for our federal public policy program. A Democratic majority in the Senate will enable the confirmation of Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) appointees that will carry out the Biden Administration’s antitrust enforcement agenda. A federal judge recently sided with the DOJ and blocked the planned merger of Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster on monopsony grounds, setting precedent for future media merger scrutiny.

Democracy is a 365-day-a-year project. In 2023, we will continue fighting for your rights and benefits at the state and federal level. It’s your PAC, it is your power. Learn more by visiting the WGAW PAC online.
