LOS ANGELES – Writers Guild of America West issued the following statement today on the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to uphold the FCC’s net neutrality rules:

“WGAW applauds today’s D.C. Circuit Court decision to uphold the FCC’s rules for an Open Internet. The years of hard work with our coalition partners have paid off. The reclassification of broadband Internet access service under Title II of the Communications Act is necessary to prohibit discriminatory and anticompetitive behavior on the part of Internet service providers that face little competition and hold tremendous gatekeeper power. The Court’s unambiguous decision solidifies the Open Internet as we know it, allowing the online video market to continue its dramatic growth fueled by increased competition, independent production, and diverse content.”
